Who Watches the Watchmen?
The long awaited, highly anticipated, Watchmen movie is finally being released. Since the late 80′s there have been several attempts to bring it to the big screen by several directors, and the rights to the movie adaption have been fought over in court by the respective studios. But now the dust has settled and it’s out tomorrow.Ya, I’m nerding out over this one.
Reflecting on the idea of making a movie from a comic though…wouldn’t it be easier than adapting a movie from a traditional piece of literature? I mean you’ve got your storyboard pre-done. Yet comic book adaptations fail all the time…The source material, the comic, that’s your bible – and that’s how it appears they’ve gone about adapting this one. Every segment form the previews I’ve seen are directly (and painstakingly) lifted from the frames of the comic (see above). The attention to detail is amazing, it’s like they’ve just brought it to life…real life.
As a huge fan of the book, I for one can not wait to watch the Watchmen…it looks like an adaptation that will do justice to the work of art that the comic was.
