Combining old schooly stop-motion animation with Wes Anderson’s unmistakable style, this looks like a winner. Voice talent includes the usual Anderson cast of rogues (Murray, Schwartzman, Wilson) and a few notable leads in George Clooney (Mr. Fox) and Meryl Streep (Mrs. Fox). Should be solid.

Also check out this featurette with Wild Things authour Maurice Sendak, for some more Where The Wild Things Are footage. Listening to him gush about Spike Jonze and the movie adaption really has me expecting great things from that film.

Looks like a good Autumn season for family fare at the multiplex…

Taking cues from old travel posters and public service announcements, this is some really phenomenal illustration and design. Be on the look out for his signature style wherever finer Disney goods are sold.

UPDATE: Also check out the fantastic production artwork by Lou Romano for Up. It’s no wonder Pixar’s movies are all masterpieces when the production artwork and promo materials are at this level. Really awesome stuff, again.

When I heard Jonze was doing this movie I was very excited at the prospect, and the production stills all look fantastic…then I heard it was too scary for kids in initial test screenings and the studio wanted it completely re-shot. So who really knows how it’s going to turn out? I know I’m crossing my fingers for something pretty rad, because everything I’ve seen so far (including this poster) looks great. Godspeed Mr. Jonze.

UPDATE: Trailer is online now too, enjoy (and enjoy the Arcade Fire on it too!).

The long awaited, highly anticipated, Watchmen movie is finally being released. Since the late 80′s there have been several attempts to bring it to the big screen by several directors, and the rights to the movie adaption have been fought over in court by the respective studios. But now the dust has settled and it’s out tomorrow.Ya, I’m nerding out over this one.

Reflecting on the idea of making a movie from a comic though…wouldn’t it be easier than adapting a movie from a traditional piece of literature? I mean you’ve got your storyboard pre-done. Yet comic book adaptations fail all the time…The source material, the comic, that’s your bible – and that’s how it appears they’ve gone about adapting this one. Every segment form the previews I’ve seen are directly (and painstakingly) lifted from the frames of the comic (see above). The attention to detail is amazing, it’s like they’ve just brought it to life…real life.

As a huge fan of the book, I for one can not wait to watch the Watchmen…it looks like an adaptation that will do justice to the work of art that the comic was.

Check it out: Trailer | Comic
